Wordless picture books are fun and engaging for students! Ideas and printables to help introduce this reading genre in your classroom or library.

I’m so excited you’ve arrived here! You must be ready to dive into the world of wordless picture books. Keep reading for tips, tricks, and a FREE resource to help you get started!

No words? No problem!

Sharing wordless picture books has SO many benefits! Let me share a few reasons with you.

📙Increase inferencing skills - no words means students must use the illustations to create meaning

📙Modelling strategies - educators can focus on modelling reading strategies like picture clues, facial expression, and body language of illustrations

📙Increased engagement in follow-up activities - students are forced to think critically in post-reading discussions and activities because they cannot rely on what they heard from the educator

📙Exposure to different text types - wordless picture books are a genre of their own, and it is important to expose students to as much as we can!

📙Fun! - when there are no words on the page, it forces you to get creative and use your imagination…and this usually leads to some laughs

How to get started?

Even a seasoned adult reader might feel intimiated with sharing a wordless picture book. When there are no words to rely on, we are forced to push and stretch our thinking, and encourage our students to do the same. It’s a very different reading experience, and I think it’s important to recognize and acknowledge this difference.

No need to be nervous to get started!

I created a FREE Reading Guide for Wordless Picture Book Guide to get you started with your reading.

It includes….

  • Activity Ideas for your students

  • 3 differentiated, no-prep printables to match any book
